About Our School
De La Salle Middle School at
St. Matthew's, a Roman Catholic institution in the Lasallian tradition,
welcomes students of all religious backgrounds.
The school will specifically respond to the children and families in the
parish and the neighborhood, regardless of race, creed, national or ethnic
origin.

De La Salle Middle School is a
small Catholic school in urban North St. Louis, Missouri. Founded in 2001
by the Christian Brothers of the Midwest, De La Salle works with 6th,
7th, and 8th grade students who face a limited
future due to inadequate schooling, poverty, low expectations and lack of
strong role models. Over 50% of households here earn less than $25,000
annually. The neighborhood has significant rates of unemployment, teen
pregnancy, infant mortality, and crime.
De La
Salle Middle School works hard to provide these at-risk students
quality opportunities and
experiences in education.
Motivated by St. John Baptist de la Salle’s revolutionary educational
concepts, the staff works to empower students academically, socially and
spiritually.

Philosophy of Mission
The staff of De La Salle
believes that the purpose of education is to create learning experiences
that are liberating and empowering. This belief necessitates the
education of the whole person in his or her developmental needs. As a
Catholic Christian school we base our effort in the values of the Gospel
and seek that empowered sense of self for our students that comes from
learning and testing new skills and goals in the presence of strong
mentoring, support, and exposure to diverse Christian role models.
We believe that each student
is capable of learning and that students can excel in academics and in
life regardless of environmental influences, socioeconomic status, or
race/ethnic background.
